The historic Cathedral City of Lincoln is situated in the heart of England, 140 miles (230k) north of London and 80 miles (130k) south of York.

Lincoln's 2000 year history began with the Romans, there was a legionary base on the present Castle site and for a time this formed the northern frontier of the vast Roman Empire.

As the Roman's continued north, a settlement for retired soldiers and their families was established, known as Lindum Colonia. Find out more in the history section.

The Bailgate Area of Lincoln is close to some of the major attractions including the Castle, Cathedral and Roman sites. Many specialist shops, hotels and old pubs line the cobbled streets. It is also the meeting point of the ghost walk.
